Dedicated to Family Safety Education, Research, and Resources

Welcome to AFSN.com, the web site of
American Family Safety Network!

AFSN is dedicated to child safety and education. We develop and produce books and websites that

  • help parents provide a safer environment for their children; and
  • promote children's long-term well being

Our book publishing division, SafeKids Books, released its initial title, The Child Safety Guide for New and Expecting Parents, in July 2004. The book covers every aspect of child safety in and around the home, where almost 90% of injuries among children under age 5 happen.

Its content ranges from childproofing and product recalls to sleep safety and common household hazards (choking and poison dangers, for example). The guide also covers car seats, including the various options available to parents, and how to install and use them properly.

The Child Safety Guide for New and Expecting Parents highlights what parents really need to know to keep their kids safe. While aimed mainly at parents with children under 5 years of age, the guide also includes safety information relevant to children up to age 8.

The book is organized, written, and illustrated to engage parents as it introduces them to child safety. AFSN is also launching a companion website with release of the guide. The site, thechildsafetyguide.com, will provide supplemental child safety content, including links to various online resources.

was launched in April 2004 as part of the AFSN Web Network. This site enables parents who don’t have a Last Will & Testament to order valid guardianship documents quickly, conveniently, and at nominal cost.

Childguardianship.com will launch a Spanish language version by September 1, 2004. In addition to providing all instructions in Spanish, the site will enable Spanish speaking users to obtain certified translations for all guardianship documents.
